Although born in Kentucky, Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, is much more closely associated with the state of Illinois. He moved there in 1830, when he was around 21, and it was there that he pursued his career as a lawyer, and later politician. It was there also that he married and raised a family. The house in the photo, now a museum, is the family home from which he departed in February 1861 to take up the office of President.
