The Parkes Observatory, affectionately known as "The Dish", owing to its starring role in the film of the same name. Apart from The Dish itself, the other big star of the film was Sam Neill, whose death was sadly announced today.

The film tells the story of the Apollo 11 lunar landing from an unusual perspective, focusing on the role played by the Parkes Observatory and its crew, who were responsible for receiving the TV pictures of the first ever moonwalk.

The Parkes Observatory is also notable for being located in a sheep paddock.
