The Apollo 14 Command Module 'Kitty Hawk', named after the small town in North Carolina where, on December 17 1903, brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright, bicycle mechanics by trade. made the first controlled powered flights.

Apollo 14 (January 31 – February 9, 1971) was the eighth crewed Apollo mission, and the third to land on the moon, following the 'successful failure' of Apollo 13. The crew were Commander Alan Shepard, Command Module Pilot Stuart Roosa, and Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell. Shepard and Mitchell spent two days on the lunar surface, during which time they conducted various experiments, collected rock samples, and Shepard hit two golf balls with a makeshift club.
